Coronavirus has dealt a severe blow to economies across the world and developed, developing and poor countries are struggling to shake off the effects of Covid-19 on their economy. India has announced a fiscal package of $276 billion to help struggling companies and the MSME sector. Democrats in the US have also proposed a $3 trillion bill to help states and local governments recover from the onslaught of the pandemic. UK has decided to pay wages of employees until September as the Johnson-led government mulls to increase the jobs program package to $103 billion pounds.

Several poor nations have turned to the IMF for credit. Chile has asked for $23.8 billion from the IMF while Zambia shall not get emergency coronavirus funding as the nation’s debt will reach 110% of GDP this year. Cases continue to rise as globally 43 lakh people remain infected by Covid-19. India has recorded 74,281 cases so far with 2,415 deaths.
UK economy shrinks 2% due to Covid-19 pandemic
UK’s GDP contracted by 2.0% in Q1 and the economy shrank by 2% in the first three months.
Pakistan records 34,336 Covid-19 cases
Pakistan saw a spike of 2,255 cases of Covid-19 along with 31 deaths in the last 24 hours. Radio Pakistan, according to ANI, gave the district wise breakup of cases per province – 13,225 cases have been registered in Punjab, 12,610 in Sindh, 5,021 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 2,158 in Balochistan, 759 in Islamabad, 475 in Gilgit Baltistan and 88 in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. 737 people have died.

Odisha has reported 101 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. Total cases have reached 538 in the state.

1,342,594 Covid-19 cases and 80,820 deaths reported from US
The US CDC said that 1,342,594 cases of the new coronavirus have been reported. 18,106 fresh cases and 1,064 deaths took the death toll to 80,820.
Football in Covid-19 era: English Premier League introduces new rules
Disinfection of pitches, prohibition of tackling, two Covid-19 tests per week, and travelling alone are the new rules, according to an official protocol sent to Premier League players and managers. Reuters accessed a news report by BBC where it said that pitches, corner flags, cones and goalposts will have to be disinfected.

India has recorded 74, 281 Covid-19 cases. Of these cases 24,386 people have recovered.
Australia wants to call China to the discussion table
Australian trade minister Simon Birmingham requested his Chinese counterpart Zhong Shan to speak to the former after Chinese customs suspended four beef exporters from supplying to China. China also upped the tariff on wheat exports by 80%. These moves are seen as retaliation by Beijing after the Australian PM pushed for an inquiry into the Covid-19 outbreak

Pregnant migrant worker walks 150 km after delivering child
The migrant worker and her husband were returning to Satna from Maharashtra’s Nashik. The lady delivered the child on the way and rested for two hours and walked for at least 150 km.

UP CM says fiscal package will be a game changer
